How It All Started – Part 3

How It All Started – Part 3

Turning Pain into Purpose

When I returned to Ghana, I was still in a deep state of shock and could barely see clearly because of the emotional trauma.

After the burial, I began reflecting deeply on road accidents and their impact on families. I conducted a small survey to find out how many men died daily through road accidents.

At the time, the statistics showed that about three men died every single day.

That led me to ask myself an important question:

“How many children become fatherless and motherless each day because of road accidents?”

As I calculated the figures locally, the numbers were unbelievably heartbreaking.

That realization ignited a passion within me — a passion to educate people about road safety and the importance of using the roads wisely, carefully, and cautiously.

I started small.

I would stand at bus stops and talk to passengers, drivers, and pedestrians about road safety and why every road user must be responsible and careful.

After about three months, I heard a television announcement that the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) was organizing a health walk around Obra Spot at Circle.

I became determined to learn more about road safety advocacy and to connect with people who shared the same vision.

That single decision became the turning point of my journey.

It connected me to leaders of six reputable institutions with whom I have collaborated from 2008 till today.

What began as pain eventually became purpose.

Today, my mission is to save lives, protect children and youth, and continue advocating for safer roads and stronger communities.

My story is proof that even in the darkest moments, purpose can still be born.
